Fiberglass or Steel Pool Options
Fiberglass Pools
Fiberglass pools are manufactured as single-piece shells within a controlled factory environment offsite. Once completed, they are transported to your backyard where they are placed into a pre-dug hole, surrounded with sand and gravel for support, and finally complemented by the patio style you select.
When it comes to cost, fiberglass pools fall in the middle range—they're pricier than vinyl options but cheaper than concrete alternatives. What makes them economically attractive over time is the absence of recurring major costs like refinishing, replastering, or reapplying surface treatments.
The phrase "install it once and forget about it" genuinely describes the fiberglass pool experience. Additionally, the smooth, non-permeable nature of fiberglass prevents algae from attaching to the walls and stops chemicals from being absorbed into the surface. Built-in features like seating areas and stairs come standard with fiberglass pools, seamlessly integrated with the same material as the entire structure. Another advantage is the rapid installation process—a fiberglass pool can be completed in just one to two weeks.
Vinyl Liner Pools
The structure of vinyl pools consists of metal wall panels covered by a vinyl liner that serves as the pool's interior finish. Among in-ground swimming pool options, vinyl liner varieties generally offer the most budget-friendly choice. Additionally, these pools provide exceptional flexibility during installation, allowing for diverse configurations in terms of form, dimensions, and water depth, with the liner material being customized to conform perfectly to whatever pool design is selected.
Because of the lower initial cost, most customers do not realize that vinyl liner pools are actually more expensive to own in the long run. Over time the vinyl gets wrinkles, fades dramatically, pulls away from the pool wall, and can get tears in the material.
Some customers have had good success with a vinyl liner pool, but the truth is that over time, every liner must be replaced. Furthermore, as with concrete pools, algae will form in the pores of the vinyl and makes it difficult to keep a vinyl pool clean. Chemical treatments are similar to a concrete pool, as are the costs associated with replacing the liner.
